AGM batteries are lead-acid batteries with a gelled electrolyte. They emit extremely little gas during charging, making them inherently more environmentally friendly than batteries with liquid electrolyte. However, they are not completely sealed, as the battery casing has a valve to release excess gas pressure, primarily hydrogen.
